Chunky Half Double Crochet Hat with a pom pom

This is a really easy pattern, after the set up row, the row repeats until it is the circumference that you need, you then mattress stitch the two ends together and drawstring the top of the hat.

Chain 30, 

set up row

Slip stitch into the first 5 chains, then half double crochet in the next 18 chains and finally single crochet in the next 6 chains and chain 1.

Repeated rows

Row 1

Single crochet (back loop only) in the next 6 stitches, Half double crochet (back loop only) in the next 18 stitches and then sl stitch into the next 5 stitches and chain 1.

Row 2

Sl st into the next 5 stitches, then half double crochet (in the back loop only) in the next 18 stitches, then single crochet (in the back loop only) in the next 6 stitches and then chain 1. 

Repeat rows 1 and 2 Until desired circumference.

Sew up the side to make a tube and then weave in and out around the top of the tube to drawstring the hat together, once it is drawstringed tighten and fasten off. Darn in ends and make a pom pom and attach if desired.
